World Cup Rugby League on the Gold Coast

Premier Beattie announced earlier this week that Queensland will play host to the 2008 Rugby League World Cup which will be another boost to Queensland tourism and another great spectacle for locals.

Australia dominates the World Cup having won 9 of the twelve tournaments played and next year the tournament also celebrates 100 years of Rugby League. The 2008 competition will feature 10 teams with Australia, New Zealand, England, Papua New Guinea and France entered automatically. Five more teams will be selected from the Qualifiers which started in April 2006.

The new Skilled Stadium on the Gold Coast will play host to one game on the first of November, 2008. Skilled Park is currently under construction at Robina and will have a seating capacity for 25,000.
